Why? because i was interested in how things worked. So now you’re thinking what has science got to do with business? Well...without science and applied mathematics there would be nothing in this world. No cars, no computers & no businesses, no batteries to drive mechanical motors or store charge in metal foil. No business would function properly without anyone of these components. Which play a hugely important part of human life. What a boring world it would be without technology. Today every business needs a computer not many of us know this, as it was never explained properly by our school teachers, but there is something that we can take from science and apply it to business.Sir Isaac Newton born was a British-born mathematician. Born in the mid-1600s, he was an influential genius considered to be ahead of his time and indeed ahead of many other pioneers time for that matter. Who would disagree with that? not many, i dont think.Sir Isaac Newton came up with several physical laws during his time: Newtons three laws of motion. Its not Newtons 1st law that interests me (inertia), or even his 2nd (F=MxA), but in fact his 3rd that is the best law in my opinion...For every action there is an equal and an opposite reaction.Weve all heard this concept, but where can we apply this 3rd law of motion other than in the field of science?Lets take a closer look at it when applied to both science and business.First, science... lets say a train is travelling at a top speed of 120mph and that a stuntman is ready to jump off. From the moment his body makes contact with the ground his body will be travelling at a velocity of 120mph until his body comes to rest. If you want to know how long it would take for his body to come to rest, then you would use Sir Isaacs 2nd law of motion F=MxA Force = Mass x Acceleration. Now lets apply the same law to business...Lets say that you have £10,000 to invest that your poor old uncle Albert left you in his will, God bless his soul. Lets say that youre thinking of investing that lump sum for about five years having only three options. One: you can stick it in the bank. Two: you can invest it in stocks and shares. Three: you invest it in an arbitrary business idea. Most of you, im sure, will go for the third option- the business idea. Before you know it, the five years are up and the business has gone bust (most businesses go bust in their first year of trading). So the action is your £10,000 investment and, if you lose it, you will get a rather unpleasant reaction (£00000). Action and Reaction. You get the picture. From the time that you leave school to the time that you reach retirement you will see opportunities just waiting to be had. Opportunities that you want to be a part of. But wait, wait... Have a cup of tea and a slice of ginger cake (my favourite), sit back, read my e-book and digest the facts. Enjoy!
